Husband and wife, Cecil de Haas and Gloria Thomas de Haas fell in love with Medford and nearby Ashland and Jacksonville in the spring of 2017 while in town visiting family.  They knew immediately this would be the area where they would finally make their longtime dream to own and operate a historic Bed & Breakfast a reality. They are both professional hoteliers with a combined background of over 50 years experience operating luxury four and five star hotels and resorts around the world including Canyon Ranch Miami Beach, Alexandra Resort in Turks and Caicos and Casa De Campo in Dominican Republic. They longed to provide the same exceptional customer service in a more intimate and personalized ambiance catering one on one to their guests.

They purchased the G.L. and Florence Buhrman House, a designated historic home by the Historic Preservation Society in the Geneva-Minnesota District, in the Summer of 2017. And, immediately recognized this home would not only be a wonderful place to live but also to welcome visitors and friends.  The house was “a happy house.” It felt warm and welcoming and they knew their guests would love it as much as they do.

Although they have traveled extensively and lived in different parts of the world, Gloria has always considered Oregon home. She grew up in Portland and has always desired to return. Their intent is to pay homage to Medford and the state of Oregon, from the historic preservation of the home to the use of local handcrafted amenities and locally sourced products. Gloria has spent an extensive amount of time researching and learning about the history of Medford, the house and its past residents. This led to each guest room being named in honor of the ladies who have owned the home since its construction in 1914. Photos, books, furnishings and stories are shared with guests throughout the home so they too can appreciate its rich history.

Gloria and Cecil have dedicated their time ensuring that every detail is taken care of so their guests have a wonderful experience in Medford. They have made enhancements to the home while still preserving its charm and authenticity. As the extra special touches, Gloria handpicks local lavender and creates fragrant sachets provided to guests during their stay. Cecil’s love of cooking enhanced after his retirement from the corporate hospitality world is readily apparent in the delicious gourmet breakfasts he creates. Fresh ingredients purchased at the Thursday farmer’s market in Hawthorne Park just a block away and from selected local vendors will give you a sense of the delicious side of the Medford community you can taste.

Rest assured, every need and every detail will be attended to by Gloria and Cecil. They welcome you to their home and hope you will soon feel as if it is your own.
